Referendum on Refrigeration

If you have gone your whole life living a certain way and dispensing your food in a way that is deemed to be safe and responsible, only to have someone start a vicious rumor with vague facts at best and it be carried out and passed down to generation and so-on. You are not alone, is it an old wise tale or wives I couldn't ever remember. My stubbornness as I get older has truly gotten the best of me if it isn't broken, don't fix it, is a slogan preserving my way of life. To show all is well and to keep the anarchy at a minimum.

Well as you can see this is a very important issue to me and I will get to the bottom of it, hopefully as one expert states, it can kill me. I’d like to continue by asking the central question that I know for a fact has been racking mine and every one's mind and also what to do about it, while trying to find the solution and finally come to an agreement once and for all.

The issue is simple clear and concise…Is it okay to leave the Ketchup and Mustard bottles out of the fridge and at room temperature in the cupboard? It's as simple as that. A friend once told me that she has seen throughout a day what can happen if you leave the condiment out, it will harden get watery and lose flavour, but she did state that the cap had been opened for large amounts of time during her shift. My whole life I've had room temperature condiments one day everyone decided that the fridge was the prerequisite for storing my ‘RT delights’ as I've coined.
One list says products with sugar, salt and acid can be left out of the fridge. While other condiments with ingredients such as vegetables, fruit and dairy must be refrigerated. But if you look close enough you can find most on each list in almost all condiments or at least the aforementioned.

When thinking of these types of products and problems that may occur, these scary words always seem to come to mind like pasteurized, fermentation and nut butters can go rancid if left too long UN refrigerated, is the norm. Different climates offer easily mold able products but you would never see such mold up north “The Two Fat Ladies didn't refrigerate their eggs, but they lived in the UK and not South Florida.”

Some remark that it's all about a certain period of time. Spoilage only occurs without consuming at regular intervals. As in if you are not downing soy sauce daily as opposed to the typical North American.
Microorganisms may not be sufficiently killed by the acidity. Refrigeration will help slow the growth of bacteria but in the end will give your mustard and ketchup six months to a year to live.

I tremendously dislike cold ketchup and mustard, but I am guessing that food poisoning is much worse and quite disheartening when you do it to yourself. Thus I have broken down and no longer need separate condiments for each roommate as in the end it is more important to be safe than sorry.

Sergei Kostitsyn

The Bad blood between the above named player and the Montreal Canadiens organization started with newly acquired Forward #91 Scott Gomez and Kostitsyn not getting along before the season and thus resulted in Sergei being sent down (unfairly from what I heard, but I wasn't there) ...as a London Knights fan and for which whom has seen him play at both a low and very high level. Sergei is an asset and will do well in a role in the NHL, but the bad-mouthing of Europeans being drafted is incorrect and is what has propelled me to speak up (A definite steal as the 200th pick-people!).

Montreal knew what they were getting after seeing him in the OHL, he just needs a fresh start and when Dale Hunter eventually gets to the NHL he will always have a job, I am sure.
I think Montreal fans should be happy with their performance in the playoffs and not gripe and make excuses for losses coming to any of the clear top two teams in the NHL this year.

Starbuck'd Trend

As soon as I left last weeks class I'm not going to lie, I went to Starbucks even after the discussions we had about the Conan O'Brien quote and the price being ridiculous.

Upon arriving I was greeted by a middle-aged homosexual man ("not that there's anything wrong with that" ...Seinfeld), who had beside him a girl in her late teens that had so many facial piercings that I swear they were all connected at one point or another. (But to each their own. Though I definitely think some of those holes are permanent.) I proceeded to place my delicious banana bread on the ledge with the high-stools overlooking the downtown traffic. I had a few minutes to kill before my late bus was set to arrive. When I walked over though, I noticed a woman of no implication sitting idly by on a powder-green love seat, holding in plain sight an enormously turquoise flower and white book. She intently gazed up at me as I unknowingly walked to the counter. I in turn looked away as I sat and pondered what was actually going through her mind. I came to the conclusion that many of you have already come to. She was probably a book-loving, flower-smelling hippie that got hooked on cafe mocha's... or... maybe in real life she may have been meeting someone there for a first date and the flower and book being the signal for the cunning stranger she was to meet and also to know for sure who she was.

At first I thought. No, no, no those types of things only happen in the movies. But as I tilted my head back furrowing a brow I wondered and came to the conclusion that most movies are based on reality just look at '40yr old virgin' you know that's a true story..... (Just kidding)

Once I was past the woman burning a hole in the back of my head with her glaring pupils, I started to eat my banana-loaf then realizing that there was a blurb on the paper bag which read as such... "flavours my senses. Sweetens my disposition, stirs my imagination...nourishes my dreams.

At first glance I thought, seriously? If it does all that, I think it should cost much more than the buck-95 I put in the hand of Mr. Nothing wrong with that.

But once I took a second I was thinking about all the easily mach-able material. Conan went for the overdone and obvious remarks when concerning Starbucks and I didn't want to do that but I couldn't help myself.

After reading it a second time I inconceivably agreed with it. (What no cheap shots?)

1-Flavours my senses..........Well the banana bread did leave a good taste in my mouth.

2-Sweetens my disposition..........I am pretty content as of now.

3-Stirs my imagination......It did cause me to get the idea and tie it into my writing classes discussion.

4-Nourishes my dreams...Now there is one that doesn't apply, aha!..... Aah dammit! It only really helps my career and dream as a writer if I am inspired to write.

So in the end I am no longer embarrassed to say that ->Starbucks the evil 'New World Order' empire it may be, that it is worth the cost, if only for this brief moment.

Knights Outlook

The London Knights season has finished.
Good news is that we are prepared for next season, bringing in youngsters rather than trading for more experienced players at the deadline, which will only help prepare our team for a successful 2010-11 season.
The bad news seems to be the lowly Toronto Maple Leafs will be taking and not returning our top play-maker in Nazem Kadri for their overdue playoff run in the weaker Eastern Conference this past season.
The coaching is in the same boat, longtime Head Coach Dale Hunter looks to seriously listen to offers for any vacancy left in the NHL this off-season. Though getting Jacques Beaulieu helped add a little to the coaching staff after his deserved opportunity in the QMJHL. It is anyone's guess who the next man at the helm would be.

For all the avid Knights fans the Winter Clearance sale began yesterday and runs today. So any of the 9,100 strong wanting Knights apparel at 30-50% off head on down for some great deals!

Also the London Knights drafted some notable players today. With their first pick selecting Chris Tierney! (Featured Below!)
